Calcium is needed to maintain strong and healthy bones. People with CF can have low bone density due to poor intake, low body weight, improper absorption of calcium in the bowel, and recurrent lung infections. Good sources of calcium include diary, broccoli, and kale. 

Minerals in cystic fibrosis

Iron is needed so that red blood cells can carry oxygen to the body's cells. People with CF have low iron due to poor appetite, improper absorption from the gut and blood loss. Good sources of iron include meats, green vegetables, and iron-fortified cereals. 

Zinc is needed for wound healing, proper sense of taste and smell and for healthy immune system. Good sources of zinc include red meat, chicken, crab, lobster, and oysters.
