Complications of chronic pancreatitis

Chronic pancreatitis is a challenging condition with its intermittent bouts of severe pain, but it can also lead to:

• Malabsorption from the cell damage that causes EPI (exocrine pancreatic insufficiency)
• Vitamin deficiencies and muscle wasting from the malabsorption
• Bone loss from vitamin D deficiency from EPI
• Diabetes from damage to the insulin producing cells 
• Opioid (narcotic) addiction from the pain medication
• Pancreatic cancer
