Kids with acute pancreatitis have severe pain in the upper abdomen that remains steady and persists for days. The pain typically radiates to the back in about half of the children. In infants and toddlers, this can just show up as non-stop crying.

Other symptoms include:

  • Vomiting and nausea
  • Fever
  • Abdominal fullness from fluid in the abdomen
  • Lightheadedness
  • Rapid breathing caused from the pain, fever, lung inflammation or accumulation of fluid in the chest
